I was 22 when I gave birth. I remember the first time Sophie was put in my arms, I was terrified. It's not like there's a step by step guide on how to be a good mother or even a mother. I moved from just being a college grad to being a mother within a year.. I know I couldn't have done it without Kyle, despite being around babies before, it was scary becoming a mother. All of a sudden responsible for a living, breathing human being. There was no pawning her off to someone else, she was mine and mine alone.
Those first few months were hard for me, learning how to be a mother, adjusting to my new life, but most of all realizing how much I was so in love with my daughter and how I didn't want her to grow up at all. Sophie is the one surprise that I never expected to have, and the one surprise I've never been more grateful to have.
I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. Motherhood has not been easy journey for me, but it has been a fulfilling one. I've learned to be more patient, that I could love someone more than I ever thought possible, that being even more ridiculous would make Sophie go from crying to laugh in a second, that the dip in my hips were the perfect seat for Sophie when comforting her and that I wouldn't change being a mother for the world. Becoming a mother has changed me in so many ways, I've become more patient, more relaxed, but also a little more crazy (ha). Not only did it change me, but it changed my view on Kyle too.
I knew I loved Kyle before Sophie came into the picture, but I had no idea the love that I would have for him after seeing him with her. He loved her more than life itself. I couldn't imagine a better father for Sophie or a better man to be with. I knew when he first held her that he was so in love with her. I couldn't explain what it was like for me to watch him with her for that first week. He was my partner in everything, and now he was my partner in parenthood.
My number one tip on being a mother? Everything will work out , don't worry about the future, don't worry about the now, focus on the present and the time you have. Pictures are wonderful and so are videos, but memories are even better. Living in the moment with Sophie have been some of my best times. Being a mother has been a joy.

I would love to start a series "becoming a mother" where there would be a guest post from a new blogger each week. In the post, you would introduce yourself and your blog, include the photo below, as well as a photo of yourself and talk about some of the challenges you've faced becoming a mother. Because your post is the guest post, the full post would be on the host's (sundays with sophie) blog, and a partial would be on yours, or just a quick blurb to say you're posting over at sundays with sophie.
Please let me know if you're interested by contacting me using the contact form in the tab above :)
