But neither am I. We've changed, life has changed us, experience has changed us, we've changed for the better, at least I hope we have.
Kyle was the type of person who didn't speak up, who never let people in on how he was feeling, who was confident to a point, but didn't fight for what he wanted. He avoided confrontation, and often went ahead with what others wanted instead of what he wanted. All of that changed when he met me.
I don't know if it was me, or it was what happened shortly after he met me. He fell in love, he became a father, and then became a husband. I won't lie and say that I knew everything about Kyle when we had Sophie, and I can say now, I still don't know, but he changed.
He's not the soft spoken man who could be pushed over so easily, but instead a man who says what he truly feels. He has become more assertive with his words while listening to others, but still being a man of few words. He's realized that his actions speak louder than his words, but knows there are times that it's nice to hear the words "I love you."
He went from being a man with no responsibility to several, he stepped up to the plate instead of falling off. He became a father and a husband in the span of a year and it was never expected of him, he just knew. When I look back on who he was and who he is today, the core of the man he was is still there, just parts of him have changed to accommodate his new lifestyle: a father (and a husband).
I still love my husband just as much as day 1, probably even more now, and to me he's still the man I married, but he's not the same man, he's a better man (that's not to say he wasn't a good man prior). He's my husband.
This is so sweet! Your family is so precious.
Reply DeleteSo precious. My husband and I have conversations about this very thing from time to time. It's amazing how much we change over time.
Reply DeleteI think that's a sign of a good marriage - when 2 people are never stagnant and are instead always growing and changing for the better :)
Reply DeleteYes, change is good, and it's necessary :) I think it's one of the most important things as well. I'm so glad we're changing together. Hope you had a great weekend Monica!
DeleteThanks, Liz! :)
DeleteI love this post! I also love how my husband has changed over the years and I can't wait to see him become a father!
Reply DeleteSuch a sweet post. I can definitely relate. In not so many words, Kevin was a pushover when we first met but now that we're married and have a family, he's definitely more vocal about things than before.
Reply DeleteWhat a sweet post, lady! It's incredible how much we grow as people and as a couple. <3
Reply DeleteThat is a great man you have there!! Such a beautiful post! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
Reply DeleteWhat wonderful, sweet words! I can relate to this too--my husband has definitely changed in a similar way since we've been married and especially since we've started a family.
Reply DeleteI try to remember every day how lucky I am!
Such a sweet post! I love continuing to learn more and more about each other and grow as a couple.
Reply DeleteThis is so sweet! Sounds like you've got a keeper! :)
Reply DeleteLove this, too sweet! My husband has changed SO much in a year, but in the opposite way. He was very rough, outspoken and harsh, and he's gotten softer and mushier since our son was born.
Reply DeleteHi Morgan! Thanks for visiting :) Hope you had a wonderful Tuesday.
DeleteI feel like all men become softer. My uncle was exactly like that, very rough around the edges and just becomes pudding with his grandchildren.
You are truly a blessed woman and you have such a beautiful family. ~Lowanda of Sunshine an Elephants

Beautifully said! Marriage changes so much when you have kids, as does who you each are and are as a couple. I love that it's making you both better and proud of each other. :)
Reply DeleteYour husband sounds like a great guy! I think one of the great things about marriage and parenthood is growing and changing. I feel like I continue to learn more about my husband all the time, and we have been married 7 years.
Reply DeleteYes I definitely agree! I feel like I'm learning about my husband every day despite the fact that i feel like I should know more about him than I do.
DeleteIsn't it great how God can change and equip us to fill the roles He has for us to fill!
Reply DeleteIt sounds like your man has stepped up to the plate and taken on his new roles with strength! You are blessed~
I came over on Grandma Ideas, and I'm glad to read your post today.
