before I start the actual post, I have to say, y'all...this past Friday I ended up deleting half of my template....which meant I spent a good portion of Friday night fixing my template and then backing up my template. So a tip for you, make sure to definitely back up your blog template on the regular, because you don't want to spend an evening fixing that.
And this is what we spent our weekend doing: cleaning.
~~~~~~~~~~~
So I originally said I wouldn't upload any pictures of our house, but after much thinking, I decided I would go ahead and upload some pictures of our house. I was so proud of having a mostly clean house, I just had to show you. Kyle didn't want all of our rooms being online, like our bedroom or his man cave (I get it) so here are some of the rooms we have in our house.
*P.S. if you just want to look at the pictures click on the first one and it'll give you a slide show*
Back in 2012 when I bought the house I was just shy of 21, a senior in college, and I bought what I considered a starter home. This house was never meant to be a forever home and I certainly didn't expect a husband or a baby to be living here as well. We do plan on buying another house and that hopefully being our forever home.
I remember thinking 1400 square feet so huge to me, but a husband, a kid, kid toys, and a cat later, we're jammed pack like sardines in here. We're hoping our forever home will be an open concept and be at least 1600 square feet. But enough about the details I know you're more interested in the pictures ;)
We'll start with the front of the house. Our house looks like a rectangle. And a fourth of that rectangle is our master suite. We're supposed to do some landscaping, but with a kid, it's really not happening. So the front of our yard has kind of become over run with plants. Most of them I don't even know what they are. The previous owners loved gardening and made it beautiful and then I moved in, and everything died. But for some reason plants just came out of no where and here we are now.
Next we enter into the living room which is in the shape of a square and very awkwardly done with the sofa I bought when I first moved in, the ugly dresser that we've never refinished, the old lazy boy chair that I got from my aunt and the dining room table that Kyle brought when he moved in. Of course, I didn't have the lazy boy or the dresser in the picture. If you're wondering why we have a gate on our threshold, well, it's because Kyle doesn't like Sophie in the kitchen when hes in there, so he locks her out. Me I don't care, she's free to roam in there whenever she wants. And yes we have also added lovely Sophie additions, like her bouncer (decorational purposes only, she doesn't even sit in it anymore). she just likes to come up to it and shake it until it turns on. And her giraffe carpet and her old playmat. You can actually see her in the background.
Looking to the left the kitchen/laundry room usually looks like a bomb went off, you better believe that I hauled ass and moved everything that was in this area into the living room to take this picture. When I bought this house I never thought about the lack of space until after
And the kitchen , Kyle and I can't both be there and cook at the same time, and god forbid Sophie's in there at the same time, we're running into each other. I can't even open the fridge if Kyle's cooking on the stove...and if you're wondering why some of the cabinets have doors and some don't well, some were pulled off to refinish and then I really like the look of no doors and just never put them back up. I was
Moving back into the living room, to the right is our master suite . We have this alcove into our room but it's basically become just junk pile for my person. I'd have to say the closet is what sold me on the house. The closet back at my mom's house was pretty much non existent, I had hardly any hanging space or folding space. So having a walk in closet was a dream to me. But with Kyle's clothes in there, it feels much smaller. Yes picture, are all of my clothes, but Kyle's are behind the door, and on the shelves.
our master bath is actually smaller than our guest bathroom, and of course I didn't account for the fact that I married a giant so our master bath doesn't fit very well for Kyle. And like the kitchen, it's not meant for two people to be in there at the same time, let alone three people. We're hoping to move Sophie into the guest bathroom for her baths. And no it's not this clean, we moved everything out to make it look nicer. There is actually a garbage can in the bathroom, but I moved it out for the picture. I actually find it weird when I visit other people's homes and they don't have a garbage can in the bathroom. I mean what if I need to blow my nose? Or am I just weird like that?
Going down to the hallway to the other side, are the rest of the bedrooms. this was boasted as a four bedroom house, but honestly, I think it would have been better to list it at a three bedroom and make the two smaller bedrooms into one large bedroom.
Here's our guest bathroom , it's basically for the cat...yes, a whole bathroom for the cat. We also use the closet (hidden behind the door) for extra toilet paper, paper towels, lysol wipes and other cleaning products that don't fit in the master.
Kyle's man cave/media room . In the closet is all of Kyle's and I's books, games, and miscellaneous things. Kyle has been relegated to that one room for all of his video games and man stuff. It's a work in progress. I was supposed have an office , but it became Sophie's playroom ....we're moved all of Sophie's things that at one time had been in our room to her own playroom, but it's not set up yet. I'm not even going to attempt to clean up the room to take a picture of it...it's horrifying.
And those are the major parts of our home :) Hope you enjoyed it!
We have a pretty small house too. Ours is 1291 sq ft, so I can relate. I have had to get creative about storage and organization. Your wood floors are so pretty!
Reply DeleteThanks Emily! Yes, definitely do! What do you do to help with the small house? Oh my gosh the wood floors are so nice, and I can't believe how well they've held up over the three years. I hope in the next house we get we'll have that too~
DeleteI think the best thing for living in a small house is to declutter on a regular basis. This week I have been going through our closets and pantries and getting rid of items that are just taking up space and that we no longer use. That frees up space for items that we actually use!
DeleteI need to start decluttering more and more nowadays. As Sophie gets bigger so do the messes...but we really need to go through her toys she just doesn't need that many anymore.
DeleteHi Liz! Visiting from Merry Monday. Thanks for showing the inside of your home! I love to see the inside of homes. I'm nosy like that! I know it's not easy to show the inside of your home - I'm doing some major decluttering and posting before and after pics - it's uncomfortable but it's great for accountability for myself.
Reply DeleteCan't wait to see yours Angela! Going to go check out your blog now!
DeleteWe raised three girls in a small house and even with small spaces it can work. The time will come when you have more space and then you'll have to find Sophie because she will be hiding on you.
Reply DeleteI love the post Have a wonderful week dear:)
thank you Ira!! Hope you do too :)
DeleteWhat a fun post :)! Love the animals in Sophie's room! :)
Reply DeleteSweet. We have 5 kids and our house is 1100 sq ft above grade and about 600 below (basement)! It can be done! I'll be posting more of mine very soon. It forces you to make good choices about what you want to display, how you want the rooms to flow together and overall the good feeling small houses bring.
Reply DeleteSo many great spaces in your home!! I totally know what you mean about backing up the template - it's a must for those just in case moments!! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
Reply DeleteYour closet looks so spacious! Wish mine was that big. Love Sophie's room, so precious!
Reply DeleteI was very lucky with the closet. We do need to clear it out though so Kyle can actually put stuff in there. It's mostly my clothes. I actually love Sophie's room the most, despite it being one of the smallest, it's the cleanest and most comfortable in there.
DeleteYou guys have such a cute house (and family, of course)! And I have the same thoughts as you regarding trash cans in a bathroom - especially if you're a girl and it's that time of the month - where are you supposed to put your trash?! :/
Reply Deleteyes!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I find it so odd when it's a ladies bathroom to and she has no trashcan in her bathroom. In our guest we just keep it tucked out of sight, but it's still there.
DeleteLoved the house tour! Thanks for linking up today.
How do you back up your blog template? I don't think I've ever done that, but I had mine designed so I suppose the designer could always fix it, ha! The first house we bought was 1700 square feet and after that I decided I needed at least 2000... We're in 2800 now and I'm a happy girl!
Reply DeleteI love the color of your front door and Sophie's room is so precious with those wall decals!
Reply DeleteFun house tour!! Hope you have a good week!
I actually love the colour of Sophie's room! I think it's one of those colours that would for both a boy and a girl. And yes, no garbage in a bathroom is weird.
Reply DeleteI think your house is so cute! I love the color of your front door! And Sophie's room is adorable!
Reply DeleteAhh I'm so jealous you bought a house at 21!!! We're 24, almost 25 and still living in apartments. I think it's sooo weird if there's no garbage can in the bathroom, so you're not alone!
Reply DeleteA really enjoyable post. I like the simplicity of your home, it's really nice. And some of the details like Sophie's giraffe rug, and the closet as you say, are great.
Reply DeleteHey! it looks like your back to being a no-reply blogger again. Hope you've been well! Thanks, I'm so glad that you love the simplicity. I do wish we could have it a little more sophisticated, but it's a little hard with a toddler.
