those who came away with the same type of body that they had prior to birth & those who have a completely new body after birth. (I'm that second type).
It's not that I don't look okay, but I've become a different person both physically and mentally after giving birth to Sophie. My body is no joke. I've talked about it before and that I had changed , but most of all, I never truly spoke of the struggles behind accepting the changes.
My hips are in different area codes now, no seriously, they grew three inches after giving birth to Sophie, and for the most part I'm okay with that. I really am, but then there are the days that I forget that I gave birth (how I ever could is beyond me), and that I pull out my once favorite pair of jeans to just try them on, maybe they'll fit. I pull them on only to be disappointed, not only is it a struggle to get them past my thighs, they won't even come near my hips. And those are the days that I get frustrated and sad that despite having given birth almost a year and half ago and working out regularly, I still have maintained a mom bod.
You'd think after all of this time I'd get over it, or that I would do something about it to get back into shape. Trust me I've tried on both accounts. It's hard. For some women, bouncing back into shape is effortless, for others (me), it's incredibly hard. Just working out and eating healthy did not give me my body back and neither has time. A good part of me has chosen to spend time with my daughter over working out, and to spend that time with my husband when we get a few minutes alone.
So what is the point of this post?
To remind all of us women that it's okay to not be back at your pre-pregnancy body, and that as tough as it is to see some women just bounce back like that, we all need to stop comparing ourselves to other women. Myself especially, I'm constantly seeing how so many of my friends bounced back easily after pregnancy, and most days it doesn't bother me, but there are those days it does. When I see them back in their favorite pair of jeans when I can barely pull mine up. And I know that one day, I'll get back to some semblance of the person I used to look like. But for now, I'm fine with having a mom bod.
Besides look at the beautiful reward I got after 9 months:

You are gorgeous lady- and so is your little girl! It's important to think about + express what you're feeling; your honesty is refreshing!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I remember coming home from the hospital after having Harper, staring at myself in the mirror, and crying. The hardest part of post partum experience was my new body. I definitely fell in the second category and it's only been in the last few months I've accepted my new body. Thank you for showing me I'm not the only one. Sometimes I felt so selfish to feel that way. But know that no matter what, you're gorgeous my friend!
Reply DeleteGreat post! It's a great reminder that our bodies are going to be different after having a baby! And that's OK! You look great by the way- and your daughter is beautiful! Thanks for your words of encouragement today.
Reply DeleteGREAT reminder!!! Thanks so much for linking up!
Reply DeleteYou're rocking the mom bod! You look great and honest posts like this are what make blogland so real.
Reply DeleteYou look great! I agree with you it's hard work! I lost my pregnancy weight fairly easy - it's all the weight I had before baby that I need to get rid of!
Reply DeleteYou look great! I've never had kids, but I'm sure I'll feel similar feelings when I do. And your reward is definitely so worth it. :)
Reply DeleteYou article was very insightful and I enjoyed how honest it was. I do not have children yet but I am nervous about what can happen afterwards. Sounds like you are doing the right things by working out, eating right, AND taking time for your daughter and husband. Great read!
Reply DeleteI get what you are saying! After my first, my body got back to almost exactly what it was like pre-baby. After my second daughter...not so much!! I have a mommy tummy that is really bugging me these days...thanks for the reminder to look at the beauties of a reward. I love my girls WAY more than my pre-baby body.
Reply DeleteThanks for linking up at Tuesday Talk!

LOVE this, what a great reminder! I love that your hips are in different area codes, that made me laugh out loud! :-) I have noticed that my body had a harder time bouncing back a little more with each kid! I have 3 sweet reminders of why my body will never look the same! Loved this! :-)

I felt like I more or less returned to normal (some pregnancies faster than others) after my first 4 deliveries. I had a C-section with #5 and will never feel the same again.
Reply DeleteI think you look great! We all change after birth however we have a beautiful gift in return - our child. Thank you for sharing with us at #WednesdaysWisdom
